Indications
Remycin is used for the treatment of infections caused by Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including:
Respiratory tract infections: Pneumonia and other lower respiratory tract infections caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Klebsiella pneumoniae and other microorganisms. It is also indicated for pneumonia caused by Mycoplasma pneumoniae, as well as chronic bronchitis, sinusitis, tonsillitis and otitis.
Gastrointestinal tract infections: Infections caused by Klebsiella species, Enterobacter species, Escherichia coli, Streptococcus faecalis and other microorganisms.
Sexually transmitted infections: Complicated urethral, endocervical and rectal infections, including infections caused by Chlamydia trachomatis. It may also be used for infections caused by Ureaplasma urealyticum (T-mycoplasma), chancroid, granuloma inguinale and lymphogranuloma venereum, as well as gonococcal urethritis, cystitis, pyelonephritis, urethritis, gonorrhea and syphilis.
Skin infections: Acne when antibiotic treatment is considered essential.
As Remycin belongs to the tetracycline group, it may also be useful in the treatment of infections that respond to other tetracyclines, including:
- Eye infections: Trachoma and conjunctivitis caused by suspected gonococcal, staphylococcal or Haemophilus influenzae infections.
- Rickettsial infections: Typhus group infections, Queensland fever, Q fever endocarditis and tick-borne fever.
- Other infections: Psittacosis, brucellosis (in combination with streptomycin), cholera, melioidosis, leptospirosis and tularemia.
Dosage and Method of Administration
For adults and children weighing more than 50 kg, the usual dose is 200 mg on the first day, followed by 100 mg daily on subsequent days.
In acute infections, the daily dose may be increased to 200 mg, either as a single dose or divided into two doses taken every 12 hours.
Treatment with Remycin should be continued for two additional days after symptoms have disappeared.
Remycin tablets should be taken with a sufficient amount of fluid.
Packaging
10 tablets are packaged in a blister. One blister, together with the package leaflet, is placed in a cardboard box.
Storage Conditions
Store at a temperature below 25°C, in a dry and dark place, and out of the reach of children.
