Indications
Tablets
CYCLOVAX is indicated for:
- Treatment of primary and recurrent infections of the skin and mucous membranes caused by Herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2, including genital herpes.
- Prevention of recurrence of infections caused by Herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2 in immunocompetent patients.
- Prevention of primary and recurrent infections caused by Herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2 in immunocompromised patients.
- Treatment of primary and recurrent infections caused by Varicella zoster virus, including chickenpox and shingles (herpes zoster).
CYCLOVAX Cream
CYCLOVAX cream is indicated for the treatment of primary and recurrent Herpes simplex virus infections of the skin, including genital herpes and herpes labialis (cold sores).
Dosage and Administration
Treatment of Herpes Simplex Infections
The usual adult dose is 200 mg five times daily for 5 days. In immunocompromised patients, the dose is 400 mg five times daily.
Children under 2 years of age should receive half the adult dose, while children over 2 years of age should receive the adult dose.
Prevention of Recurrence of Herpes Simplex Infections in Immunocompetent Patients
The adult dose is 200 mg four times daily or 400 mg twice daily. The dose may be reduced to 200 mg two or three times daily, with treatment interruptions recommended every 6–12 months.
Prevention of Primary and Recurrent Herpes Simplex Infections in Immunocompromised Patients
The adult dose is 200-400 mg four times daily.
Children under 2 years of age should receive half the adult dose, while children over 2 years of age should receive the adult dose.
Treatment of Varicella Zoster Virus Infections
For adults, the recommended dose is 800 mg five times daily for 7 days.
For children, the recommended dose is 20 mg/kg body weight four times daily.
Patients with Renal Impairment
The oral aciclovir dosage regimen should be adjusted in patients with renal impairment.
Patients with a creatinine clearance of >10 mL/min/1.73 m² may receive 200 mg five times daily.
Patients with a creatinine clearance of <10 mL/min/1.73 m² may receive 200 mg twice daily.
Dose reduction may be required in elderly patients.
Aciclovir Cream/Ointment
Aciclovir cream/ointment should be applied five times daily, approximately every four hours, omitting the nighttime dose.
Treatment should be continued for 5 days. If healing has not occurred after 5 days, treatment may be continued for an additional 5 days.
Do not use in the eyes.
Treatment with aciclovir should be started as soon as possible after the onset of infection.
Packaging
- Tablets: 10 tablets per blister. 1 blister is packed in a carton together with the package leaflet.
- Cream: 10 g in a tube. 1 tube is packed in a carton together with the package leaflet.
Storage Conditions
Aciclovir tablets: Store below 25°C, in a dark, dry place and out of the reach of children.
Aciclovir cream: Store below 25°C in a tightly closed tube.
